Images not loading

I’ve just installed WP 4.3.1 for a new website I’m working on, but am unable to upload any images. Also, the pre-installed images for the standard themes don’t load either. All images just show a missing/broken image icon (an icon with an x in a box).

When I upload a new image (I’ve only tried JPEGs so far, I get a broken image icon in the Media Library, and when I try to publish, the space where the image is supposed to display is blank. When I click on one of the broken image icons in the Media Library, I can see the image if I choose “Edit”, but even if I save any changes (I tried to rescale), nothing changes.

I’ve tried Safari and Chrome (latest versions) on MacOS X, and Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 (64 bit), same results on all browsers.

I’ve tried reinstalling WP several times, no change, and have tried different themes, to no avail. WP was installed using Softaculous.

Am getting very pressed for time here… hope a solution is one the way!

(Btw, I also tested the trick someone having the same problems mentioned, which was to use an old version upload.php, but that didn’t work either.)
