Implementing a Multisite Network o local machine

    I have been getting up to speed on setting up a network for multiple sites and wanted to get started but got confused about modifying the php files.

    I have multiple WP versions (3.9 to 4.2) on my local machine and WP justed updated to 4.4.1 which is NOT on my machine. So how do I know which wp-config.php and .htaccess files to modify to get started?

    I have deactivated all my plug-ins and don’t care if I wipe out my current web page because not much there and I want to start over. I am a rookie at this and need a fresh start and a little help.
