I have an import of about 48,000 posts which is about 70% complete. Today I received a message claiming my server terminated the import. Normally I just click on “manage imports” find the import and cancel it before trying to run it again but now there is no cancel option and if I click “run import” I just get another identical error.

Historically I could always try re-running the import a few times before it would finally work. Today there seems to be no such luck. I have tried about 10 times in a row only to receive the same result and concluded that trying again without waiting at least a few hours would be insane.

Your plugin also falsely claims that the server logs could diagnose the problem. I reviewed the error log in cPanel to find nothing unusual let alone helpful. I also located the PHP error log file in File Manager for the domain in question only to find it just as useless. The plugin’s logs are just a list of imported posts with no error messages. What log are you guys referring to?

Also, sometimes the page displays a partial 404 error after the import is terminated. This is most puzzling part because obviously there is no 404

Great feedback plugin developers. I’ll remember to look for a better solution like NS Cloner or WP Migrate.

    Hi @wpbroken2much,

What log are you guys referring to?

When you contact your web host (this guide will help with that: https://gist.github.com/mbissett/d98d1acdf4b2ba11bc67d6f652d4497c), they should be able to look through the PHP and server error logs to find the relevant entries around the time of the error.

Alternatively, it’s possible that you could log it yourself using these instructions: https://github.com/mbissett/error-revealer (be sure to follow the instructions closely, then revert all changes to wp-config and remove the MU plugin when you’re done).

Let us know what you find out.

Also, sometimes the page displays a partial 404 error after the import is terminated. This is most puzzling part because obviously there is no 404

That typically means there was a server error in the background. You or your web host should be able to find it in the logs by following the directions above.
