Hi Ivan,
can you please explain in more detail what the problem is?
What exactly are you trying to do with import/export and what is not working?
Problems with special characters are usually related to character encoding difficulties, or inconsistencies with UTF8.
Regards,
Tobias
As I said I’m creating a large table more then 1000 rows.
In Slovennia we have special letters such as Č, Š and Ž (not sure if you could read these letters but we have C, S and Z with small “v” on top of these letters.
So, first I create table in Excel with 1300 rows + 4 columns. Then import it as CSV and LOST ALL “our special letters” 🙁
Then in Table I had to correct all these words.
I could correct it this in excel BUT with importing to Table as CSV I will lost again ALL special letters 🙁
It would be easier if I could just move rows in table.
I’m open for your suggestions.
THANK YOU for all your help.
Ivan
Hi Ivan,
ah, ok. Thanks for the explanation!
First of all, you can move rows in TablePress! They can be moved by simply dragging and dropping them, by clicking and holding the row number on the left of the row.
Now about the special characters: Yes, this is then related to the character encoding. I’ve added some improvements about this in TablePress 0.9-RC, but those don’t work on all servers, unfortunately (your’s might be one that doesn’t). In that case, there’s however a manual workaround:
– Save the file in Excel to CSV (as you do now already).
– Open the CSV file in a text editor, like Notepad. Click “File” -> “Save as” and select “UTF8” in the Character Encoding dropdown list, and save the file.
– Then try importing that file into TablePress. The special characters should not be imported just fine.

Tobias
Dear Tobias, THANK YOU
Unfortunately I can not “move” rows by clicking-holding and draging. It just doesn’t work.
However, I will try your next step as you explain and will let you know if its works.
Thank you again.
Ivan
Hi Ivan,
that’s strange. Do the other buttons on the page work, like insert and delete rows?
Regards,
Tobias
Hi Tobias,
I could add rows, delete rows, insert row/columns etc.
I have now 1333 rows and only problem is I can not move row?
It start “running” and then said” Continue or Stop Script”
If I click on Stop Script I can go on any other “button” on web page
If I click Continue I could go out of WP-Table.
Thanks,
Ivan
Hi Ivan,
ah, ok. Yes, then the high number of rows and columns brings that JavaScript to a stop in your browser 🙁 Sorry about that.
You could try again after switching to Google Chrome as your webbrowser, as that has a better JavaScript performance. If that also does not work, you’ll have to do the moving for this large table in Excel. Sorry 🙁
Regards,
Tobias
Hi Tobias,
I did as you suggested(save as CSV then click Notepad, file-open CSV with UTF8. Then I IMPORT that CSV file but unfortunately it doesn’t work.
Č letter is missing and other two are not as they should be 🙁
Any suggestion? At the end this Table should have between 8000-9000 rows.
For me its VERY important to show these places so that other could see names in SLO-GER-ITA-HUN
Thank you for your help and being so patient and willing to help people like me 🙂
DANKE.
Ivan
P.S. As I said I could give you my login (username and password) so that you could see.
Also will not show German letters such as
Büdintz and
Wrußnitz (but here I could replace ß with zwo “ss”
Sorry
AND Csentevölgy (also German letter)
Hi,
yes, this is a character encoding issue then. However, I’m not sure why even the manual work around doesn’t work for you.
So, yes, please send me an email (the address is in the main plugin file “tablepress.php”) with the login details and the Excel file attached.
Regards,
Tobias
Also I culdi replace
á with a
ä with a
é with e
ü with u
ö with o
ó with o
ő with o
ß with ss
However IF possible I would like to keep “original” language
BUT i need to keep Č, Š and Ž
Tobias,
I’m sorry but I can not “find” this (the address is in the main plugin file “tablepress.php”)
Could you just give me email and I will send it to you info you need, thank you.
Ivan
