Hello, I am experiencing two issues with table press that I don’t believe I have seen before when I import an excel spreadsheet.

    1. Table press imports the code on my excel spreadsheet. I have a sheet (sheet 1) which is made up of data from another sheet. When I import the spreadsheet tablepress shows me the code instead of the values. I have to create a new sheet and copy/paste just the values into the new sheet and then import it. Is there a way to import and only show the values and not the code?

    2. Table press is showing more columns and or rows than there is data. This has not happened to me before. If you look at the second table on the page referenced you will see that there are many blank rows. How do I prevent this? I only want to show rows and columns with data.

    Thank you

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

Essentially, this is a side effect of the new and more powerful Excel import engine. This can now import formulas as well (which TablePress can then evaluate). Now, in your use case, where you are only interested in cell values, this is indeed not that helpful. Therefore, I recommend to simply save the desired worksheet to a CSV file, and then import that CSV file, which will only contain the cell values, and not formulas, into TablePress.

    Regards,
    Tobias

Hi @tobiasbg Tobias, thanks for your response. Sounds like a good feature, just not for me. 🙂 It would be great to have an option to only import values. Your solution is essentially my work around already. I just copy the values into a new sheet 1 and the excel spreadsheet then imports without the code. It’s just a few extra steps.

Any thoughts on why it is importing extra rows and columns? It never used to do that.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Yes, an option for formulas/no formulas/just values is on my list already 🙂

As for the empty rows: Usually, this happens when Excel says that these rows are not actually empty (for reasons that I don’t know). The workaround here can be to select all those empty rows again and again delete all their content and styling/formatting, or even to copy the actual content into a completely new Excel file.

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
