I was using Modern Event Calendar lite (MEC) for over 4 years and have about 400+ events, with rich text on them.

I have been advised by my host that is out of date and not recommended by WP and has security issues.

I have downloaded ‘The Events Calendar’ (TEC) and tried to import a CSV that I have exported from MEC events into a CSV file. When I try to import it with the TEC, it dossn’t allow me to map the fields. It shows an error saying no event name?

I really need it to import my events, I have the CSV file to inspect.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @cecil108 ,

    Thank you for reaching out.

The exported CSV file you have from MEC may need to be re-structured or re-formatted for The Events Calendar’s import function to understand it. As such, I recommend that you have a go through our Importing Calendar Data From a CSV File guide.

    Hi @cecil108 ,

Thank you for your message, and I’m sorry to hear of the continued difficulties.

Unfortunately, the screenshot you shared isn’t accessible on our end, as it seems to be blocked by Cloudflare. Your CSV file on the other hand appears to be tabbed delimited. You may need to convert it to a comma delimited, some online tools may be able to assist on this process.

The file that I’m exporting from MEC is CSV, that’s what I am asking MEC?

    Hi @cecil108 ,

Thank you for your message, and I apologize for the confusion.

MEC, I believe, is a separate events plugin unaffiliated with The Events Calendar. Since you have exported its events to a CSV file, the columns and data structure of that CSV file likely do not conform with the CSV import of The Events Calendar. That said, in order to import your events from that CSV export, you’ll need to open that file in a spreadsheet editor (i.e., Excel, Calc, etc.) and transfer over the data, like Event Title, Event Start Date, etc., to another CSV file that follows The Events Calendar’s columns/structure, which you can find in our Importing Calendar Data From a CSV File guide. Please let us know if you have further questions/concerns.

When I go to import and view fields, it only shows ‘Event Name’ on the top of the view? Am I supposed to see the other field names as per the video tutorial?

    Hi @cecil108 ,

    Thank you for your message.

Provided that you have completed the conversion (or transfer over) of your CSV file from the MEC format to The Events Calendar format, and use the latter for the import, yes, you should be able to see other columns other than the Event Name.

    Hi there,

It looks like we haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’ll go ahead and close this thread for now.

I manually edited the csv file to have the key field names, it worked, I have a few events in my calendar now.

I’m waiting to hear from MEC how to export organisers and locations from the MEC events.

Got to add the calendar to my right sidebar next?

    Thanks

If you’re able to add widgets to your sidebar, you can use the Events List widget to display your upcoming events there.

    https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/event-list-widget/

For more advanced calendar features and additional display options, that might require a premium features. If you have further questions specifically about PRO features or functionality, I recommend reaching out via our help desk so we can assist you in more detail.
