• Hi

I have a bunch (200+) of normal posts under one parent category with many child-categories. They are effectively the old posts that we used to use like a portfolio on the website. That parent category is simply ‘roject-showcase’ and the children are countries.

I’ve tried different ways to either migrate these posts to become portfolio posts (using Taxonomy Switcher), but it just seems to add new portfolio type categories and not the posts themselves. If I run the switcher I get a single parent category that says it has 200+ posts, but my portfolio items remain empty.

I also looked at exporting the posts via the default Wp exporter (to xml) or even WP All Export and WP All Import and importing them back as portfolio posts. But after exporting and looking at the xml file, I get a little uneasy about importing 200+ posts if its not going to work as the fields don’t match.

So I just wanted to ask on here what you think would be the best workflow for this task?

    Thanks.

  • Hi @judodesign,

The Post Type Switcher plugin may work for you: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/post-type-switcher/

I highly recommend taking a full backup of your site first. Or you might want to test this on a separate test installation first before moving it to your live production site.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks @susannelson,

In the end I used WP All Export and WP All Import as it was non-destructive towards the original posts. After a lot of fiddling about with cells in a spreadsheet, I was able to import them successfully.

So the original posts are still in the blog, but I will delete them en mass once everything is settled with the portfolio pro posts and I no longer need to refer to them.

    Thanks for your help.

Great! I’m glad you were able to resolve the issue.
