The context is a company that collects subscribers online, but also needs to import periodically its internal database of clients (some of them not being collected from the web but in real life).
NB: this may not sound ‘optin’, but is legal in France in the B2B area. Yet one has to make sure to respect any optout request.

So I may have users that fill an online form where the newsletter optin is proposed, and say they they don’t want to subscribe. Or they received one newsletter and then asked to be opted out. Yet they will be in the client database and when I import it into my wordpress user base, I would like not to overwrite the information that they do NOT want the newsletter.

Could that be possible and if yes, how?
In some external services I use now, it is possible not to overwrite fields with blank values.
If I move to ALO plugin, I know I can import users, but do not se that option to respect existing fields.
