• I have been trying to import my typepad blog into my wordpress one. The directions that I have found talk about an import-mt.php file that I don’t have. I have searched and haven’t found anything to help me out. Could someone please help me. I have been working on this for way to long and starting to rethink using wordpress.

    TIA

  • Sadly those are sightly aged instructions. The file is just mt.php now. It should be on your Admin->Manage->Imports screen though, quite clearly labeled as Movable Type and TypePad.

I have been working on this all day. I am almost ready to give up and just keep using typepad. I found that I need to change permissions but I can’t figure that out in Dreamweaver. I am using a mac if that helps. I tried to import thru wordpress using Manage – Import. I get this error “Unable to create directory /home/candi/public_html/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/06. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”. IF someone can I would appreciate it.

Don’t give up. I use a Mac too and it’ll work. You’re almost there if we can get past that permissions error message. (thanks for that feed back)

Odds are high that the permission on the wp-content directory is too restrictive and Dreamweaver isn’t the tool to fix that. Use your webhost control panel (or shell access) to get group write access. Dreamweaver can’t fix what it’s not allowed to fix it and right now it’s not allowed to fix that.

I’ve never used Dreamweaver personally, but I’ve seen it’s failures. Use your web control panel to set the wp-content directory to group writable. If that works, consider another FTP client instead of Dreamwaver. I use CyberDuck but I’m a bit old school. It won’t fix permissions it’s not allowed to fix either. Use the webpanel.
