I have two particular posts (I’ll call them A and B).

Post B is the closest match for Post A with a YARPP score of 8. There are 5 other matches (all with YARPP scores of 4 or 3).

But Post A doesn’t even feature on the YARPP list of matches for Post B. (Post B has 5 posts exceeding my specified threshold of 3. They all score either 4 or 3. They are the same 5 posts that score 4 or 3 for Post A.)

My question is, if Post B has a YARPP score of 8 with respect to Post A, shouldn’t Post A also have a YARPP score of 8 with respect to post B—and, therefore, be the best match? (I have checked, and 8 is definitely the right score.)

I have set YARPP to consider Categories and Tags only. I have set the ‘Show only previous posts’ checkbox to OFF (for info, post B is older than post A). I have also tried amending both posts to try to force a score refresh, but this has not worked.

Very confused. YARPP is almost working as I would expect, but not quite!

Yes, I would think that A should show up, especially if they share the exact same categories and tags. If A has more or fewer, this could explain why a match in one direction is not necessarily the best match in the other direction.

You could also try deactivating or even deleting YARPP (which empties the database of YARPP records) and reinstalling to see if that changes anything.
