Like a site staging area, the Rewrite & Republish allows users to update an older post, and when scheduled and republished, the updated post replaces and “deletes” the original post.

Here’s the observed problem after using the Rewrite & Republish feature many times.

    • The actual word-based link to the updated post is the same as the original word-based link.
    • However, the updated post ID number link differs from the original post ID number link.
    • When the WordPress Reader sends a notification email to followers, the different ID number link embedded in the heading title gives Followers the error message post not found.

The Happiness Engineers at Automattic believe this is a Yoast plugin issue and not related to the functioning of the WP Reader.

Does anyone have a fix for this problem irritating WP Followers?

Thank you for looking into this issue. I’ve tried contacting both the WP and Yoast teams about this issue. This feature is perfect for bloggers who want to keep their evergreen posts current for readers and SEO. However, it gives the error message that the link doesn’t work even though it still uses the original URL. Your efforts are appreciated!
