In another thread regarding the same problem I’m having, I have a question about your response to turn off “Link Tweaks.” Where is that option located. I’ve looked everywhere (I think).

I do notice in my situation that the 403 Forbidden and maybe 21 Internal Request Error are coming up for one, possibly two sites I link to. I’m affiliate for Zazzle and most of the 403 errors seem to be from there. When I click the link from inside the BLC, the link now works.

In the sample link that I gave, the broken links are being reported for the Zazzle links only. That was a big tell.

So I agree that some sites may “bounce” requests like the ones you explained in your post.

I just can’t figure out how to turn off “Link Tweaks” as you suggested in the other post.

Thanks for a great plugin. I hope I can use it without being a problem to you.

    Hello @boutiqueshops,

    Hope you’re doing well today!

I tried to find the thread & post you were referring to however, I was unable to find them.

The issue you are noticing about Zazzle links shows 403 Forbidden could be because the Zazzle site blocking the BLC Crawler Further, the 21 Internal Request Error is a general error and BLC could not complete the scan of that link.

About the “Link Tweaks” option, I reckon you are using the Local BLC engine, you can find the Link Tweaks option by navigating to WP Admin >> Link Checker >> Local (old) >> Settings Tab >> General >> Link Tweaks.

However, to turn off link tweaks, I was unable to find the post you are referring to, could you please share the post link so that I can take a closer look at it and suggest about it further?

    Awaiting your response.

    Kind Regards,
    Saurabh

The other post has the exact same name as this one. I thought that it would be helpful, but apparently it has caused confusion. It was last responded to by Kasia – WPMU DEV Support, 3 days and 21 hours ago. At this moment, it is listed right after mine on the post list.

“403 Forbidden could be because the Zazzle site blocking the BLC Crawler Further” in your response is exactly what I said. There’s another site with a large number of the same error message, so it is apparently common with affiliate links to certain sites.

I am using the Cloud Broken Link Checker, so apparently the ‘Link Tweaks’ do not apply here.

As shown in my first post, the link with some examples on my site is:

    https://the-blanket-store.com/bird-throw-blankets/

Scroll to the Society6 and Zazzle product displays and click on them. You will be taken to the product page OR an item out of stock or discontinued page on their site.

The reason I use Broken Link Checker is to identify broken product links. Apparently, I’ll have to accept the overkill because we can’t control the merchants’ servers rejecting a query.

PS: there are also 403, 503, 429. In my cloud broken link checker, when I click on these links, I either arrive at the product page OR find a miscellaneous out of stock page These are links from other merchants than the first two I listed.

    Thanks,

    Sylvia

    Hi @boutiqueshops,

Scroll to the Society6 and Zazzle product displays and click on them. You will be taken to the product page OR an item out of stock or discontinued page on their site.

I could notice these sections and they are reported in the BLC scan as 403.

I also checked other reports ie 403, 503, 429 & 21 and all these are pointing to 3rd party servers and these 403/503/429 errors would mean the request was sent back from those servers when the BLC tried to crawl those pages.

Unfortunately, all these would point that those websites are blocking the access. I’m afraid, unless they are allowed on the 3rd party server there isn’t any way to prevent such error.

What you could do is mark such URLs as “Ignore Link“, so that they won’t be crawled the next time.

We do have plans to improve the workflow regarding how such links could be filtered on the BLC scan results, at the moment I’m afraid it’ll require manually marking such URLs as ignore for now.

Sorry for any inconvenience due to this.

    Kind Regards,

    Nithin
