Why did you download Noto Serif and Open Sans? Are they used by your theme? OMGF always returns them, because they are WordPress’ default fonts. If your theme doesn’t use them, uncheck them in OMGF’s settings and run the steps again.
thanks for the quick response and here is what i did.
I emptied the cache
did auto detect
clicked download fonts – only raleway
a generated style sheet
clicked done
Saved the settings
does the plugin implement font-face mechanism, because from what i read around, this the best way to reduce the FCP

Try setting ‘Font-Display’ to ‘Fallback’, save settings, generate stylesheet and generate autoptimize’s cache afterwards.
And yes, it does use the ‘Font-face’ property for Font loading.
i did what you said, the weird this is that: First Contentful Paint (FCP) score is 3.3
but if you go to the lab scores, it shows FCP is now 0.9
does that make sense to you?
I’m not sure exactly what you mean by lab scores…?
hi daan
in addition, i found out your plugin doesn’t cache the plugin local fonts, is this on propose?
“look under – Ensure text remains visible during webfont load”
https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.saveatrain.com%2Fblog%2Fmost-beautiful-streets-europe%2F&tab=desktop
The 3.3 seconds means that the entire page is loaded in 3.3 seconds. The other FCP means that the first content is shown after 0,9 seconds. Which is good, because that means the page ‘feels’ fast.
The other fonts you mentioned are already cached locally. So there’s no need to cache them again, anyway. But yes, OMGF is made specifically to take care of caching and optimizing Google Fonts. No other fonts.
thanks for everything, really.
i have a question maybe you can assist me.
how do i minimize the loading time of the page overall?
google claims this site is slow π

Hi,
Nice of you to show interest in my services, but since this isn’t related to OMGF, please contact me using the contact form on my blog: https://daan.dev/contact
my auto-optimize settings are
* Combine and load fonts asynchronously with webfont.js
shall i change this setting to, leave as it is?
I’m not seeing any suggestions related to preload. And yes, it is better to set Autoptimize to ‘Leave as is’ since OMGF is doing the optimization for you.
sometimes google page insights put this note:
