index page & Theme help

Alright guys so I have searched and searched for over 3 days, maybe I just over looked this and hopfully its super simple.
I am using the WP-Photoria 1.1 theme by WPZoom. It has a scrolling banner on the front that I have set to show “Featured” posts. There is also a Homepage theme setting that is labeled “Show recent posts on homepage?”. When I answer yes to this it shows as a blog on the homepage with teh header, and if I have a static page showing a soecific category it will show. As soon as I put no as the answer it removes all the “blog parts from the homepage (leaving the scrolling banner) but it also does not show any posts from my category page.
My over all goal here is to have the “homepage” with just the scrolling banner, and a second page with or without the banner, but does show the rest of my posts.
