I could have probably asked this in another section, but I figure since the theme author has chosen to use particular WP functions they must know a good deal about them.

BlankSlate does not handle things the same way as the majority of themes. One big thing being the loop. In the index.php on line 6 is.

<?php while ( have_posts() ) : the_post() ?>
```
I am not too familiar with the_post(). I had a read over at
http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Function_Reference/the_post

How can I exclude a category from the_post()?

One big thing being the loop.

That line of code you posted above is part on an absolutely bog standard Loop. See the Loop.

Esmi, I agree. I prefer the loop as well. I’m just curious. Just looking into BlankSlate.

Oops! Forgot to scroll up! 🙂

My guess is that, as the theme is intended to act as a foundation for custom themes, much of the common theme coding has been wrapped in the theme’s own custom functions. This is common practice in many framework-like foundation themes.

Yes, that was my theory too. But was curious if there was a work around. In the single.php there is a regular loop statement. Which is why i asked. I was just confused why handle it properly in one place, but leave it up to developers to implement it in the main loop. Thanks for the input, Esmi!

Actually, we’re releasing version 4.0 very soon, likely before the week is out that completely overhauls our code base removing a lot of custom functions, so keep an eye out for that.
