Where exactly are you trying to insert this image? Are you trying to add it to an Event to show up as the Featured Image? Or is this supposed to be somewhere else?
I inherited this site, so I’m not a 100% familiar with the plugins or how it was built. But in the backend of events… there’s a place to add a hero image that is NOT the featured image. I can add the featured image just fine and it appears in the fron end of the calendar, etc. But the HERO image at the top of the post is what I am having trouble withe. Here are screenshots of 1 front and back that are working, and since the update, 1 back that is no longer working. When I try to load, the link just refreshes the page/link like it is missing the actual link to add media. That’s why I included the end of the link previously. Does this make sense? When I look at the documentation, I see that there is both a hero and a feature image. So that’s why I think there’s an issue with the plugin update and not something else.
It should be said that I am standing by to purchase a license for this, but I need to make sure it is up and running well before I commit anything further to it. I don’t want to upload another version until I source the issue for the existing one.

So I am thinking that whatever this hero image is, is a customization and probably added by the person before. The Events Calendar does not have any functionality for a “Hero Image” like this, there is nothing like it located anywhere in the plugin normally. I am also not sure which documentation you referenced, but that is not in any of the updated docs. The Featured Image for an event is what you are going to want to use to display an image.
I would take a look into this site and see if the previous person added any custom code or anything, because it sounds like they have.
