Insert Link button not working

When I write a post and try to insert a clickable link but using the inswerr/edit link button
the dialogue box appears, I type in the link, but when i press the ‘add link’ at the bottom, nothign happens and I have to close the diag box

I an Using version 3.8.3
any assiatance is greatly appreciated
