Insert link function in posts is not working

    I am working on a post. I highlight the text to insert a link, press the insert link button, and though the window comes up, it is unresponsive. Normally, I copy and paste links, but now I cannot even get the right click menu. I also cannot type a link directly rather than pasting. Thanks for any help in advance.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    I eliminated the plugins and theme as a possible cause. But I would be more comfortable adding links by hand with html than reloading a 3 year blog. At least the html still works.
