Insert Read More Tag

I am working on posting the second article to my blog and for some reason when I try inserting the read more tag it is deleting or rather cutting out the top three paragraphs of my article. It is just completely removing them and they do not appear on my homepage or in my blog post. I have been trying to fix it since late last night and I did not do anything different than I did when I inserted the read more tag into my first article. Website glitch?

Here are the steps I took –

1. Highlighted the top two paragraphs of my article after I imported it into word press.
2. Clicked the box icon for the Insert Read More tag.

If I am doing this wrong can someone please let me know? Like I said it worked perfectly the first time.
