Insert/Edit Image non-functional

Trying to insert an image into a post with admin/write.

First, uploaded the image. That went okay.

No, wait… first, I typed a bunch of deathless prose. Didn’t save it, of course. THEN uploaded the image.

Next, having never tried it before, I clicked the insert/edit image button. It brought up a popup window with less than I wanted (i.e. no browse to the file, just a place to enter it… effing useless: I coulda typed the damn file path/name into a tag) so I canceled it.

Ooops, no, I didn’t. It wouldn’t cancel. In fact it didn’t do diddle-e-squat. Nothing I could think of would make it go away. The “X” button didn’t, the “cancel” button didn’t, nothing worked at all.

I finally got rid of it by refreshing the browser, but that threw away all of my deathless prose.

Thought it might be FF, but no… same thing with IE and Opera.

Searched here a while, and it appears this is a common problem, but I haven’t found any fixes or workarounds.

What’s going on with this fine little piece of javascript code? Does it need some undoc’ed (or hide-a-doc) setup? Is there a replacement? What it is?
