I am sorry that I have not added option for instagram in plugin’s option page. I will definitely add it in upcoming version.
If you can edit code, you can add it on ‘social-links.php’ file of plugin.

and was able to add the option, and then I modified the css to use a existing png file I had.
The only problem Is because it uses 2 separate png files for normal and hover there seems to be a loading time the first time it is used. Any ideas on a way to fix this?
If the Instagram pic was a option for the single social.png file this would be fixed, However I expect that alot of people like to use custom icons like I am doing..

The top right corner. Each icon is a separate image including a separate icon for the hover. It would probably be better to be able to apply a different colour to the icon rather than a separate icon but I am new to CSS and php and could not find an answer to it.

You have 3 links in you site and used custom icons. I recommend you to use sprite image with 2 different color and show them differently in normal and hover state.
You can refer to plugin’s css and image for reference.
