Instagram auto-sharing adds unwanted link to captions

    Hello,

    I’m using Jetpack Social to auto-share my Events custom post type. Facebook shares look fine, but Instagram posts always have the event permalink automatically appended at the end of the caption. Since Instagram doesn’t support clickable links, this just shows up as dead text and looks messy.

    I tried using wpas_default_message and related filters in my functions.php to strip links for Instagram only, but Jetpack still re-inserts the URL after my filter runs.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Connect Instagram via Jetpack Social.
    2. Publish a post (or CPT event).
    3. Check Instagram post – a link is always added to the end of the caption.

    Questions:

    • Is there a way to prevent Jetpack from adding the permalink to Instagram captions?
    • Does Jetpack support per-network caption templates (e.g. link for Facebook but not for Instagram)?
    • If not, is this a known limitation or bug, and is there a recommended workaround?

    Thanks for reaching out!

    Right now, Jetpack Social always appends the permalink to Instagram captions. There’s no straightforward or per-network setting to suppress it.

    One workaround is that, after sharing, you can manually edit the caption in Instagram and remove the link.

    Another one is, for posts that must stay link-free, post to Instagram manually and keep Jetpack Social enabled only for other networks.

    Hi Tamirat,

    Thanks for clarifying. That makes sense – I’ll remove Jetpack Social from my setup altogether since I can already manage Facebook and Instagram sharing through Meta Business Suite. I’ve also built a separate workflow for copying/pasting customised blurbs per event, so Jetpack Social isn’t really needed anymore.
