Andrea are you using PHP 5+?
That is a common error while trying to run PHP5 code on a PHP 4 enviroment. As written in the plugin requirements, in order to work correctly, you need PHP 5+. Let me know if this turns out to be the issue.
according to the provider Aruba it is 5.2.17, this is what I see from my control panel. I will contact them directly and ask for it.

@weekendfoodie The Photo URL comes out when you share one of your photos on twitter or Facebook. Every Instagr.am photo has an automatic html generated page. Just take note of the URL, and paste into the widget appropiate field.
@lidostudios In order fot the plugin to work correctly, you have to set a profile picture on instagram.

Every URL that I have tried gives me the following error
“Sorry, an error occoured while trying to get your instagr.am ID! Please try another instagr.am url.”

I was having the problem that no items were coming up after following the setup instructions, it appears that the plugin routes through a heroku project that you’ll need to authorize with intstagram before it will work correctly.

@2meters thanks for the tip. It totally works! Follow the link provided above, then click log in with your instagram then copy the link on your browser. Then paste it on photo URL on your widget.
@2meters Thanks for the link. I tried to use it but every time I sign in with my Instagram account or the link to my photograph, it gives me the following error message.
Error: can’t perform this operation
Please, try again later.
