Install Problems

Hi, I am new to this and not an expert, however, I am fairly good at following directions. I did all the installation requirements, then I went to the install.php and I get this error:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected '}' in /homepages/11/d91630976/htdocs/index/wp02/wp-includes/formatting.php on line 104

I use 1and1.com for my webhosting with:
php
MySQL5.0

I used the ftp client on Frontpage to upload it….not sure if that makes a difference. I tried changing some of the database properties, username, password….and I got the WP error pages, telling me it uploaded correctly.

Please help.
