Check if all your files are 644 and folders are 755
is this a fresh install or is it transferred to new server reset your permalinks
Yes, this is a brand new fresh install…the date is May 29 so I’m certain it’s 3.1.3. But I could download it again, just to make certain sure.
Anyway, I’ll look again into the files and let you know what I find. ASAP. I suspect the problem has a simple answer that I just need to get at…
Yup….the folders are indeed 755, and all files appear to be 644.
So, what now?
So now what? Weird that I can EDIT files but not OPEN any of them, since the system tells me they don’t exist!!
Do you have wordpress installed and can you log in admin panel.
Is there any way you can post your url see what you are getting.
I just installed ww.wp.xz.cn via hostgator….received NO password at all…so now I cannot do anything with the site…..help……
When you installed wordpress the last step you enter the user name and password for you admin panel you need to use that.
Problem solved…..uninstalled and reinstalled…so simple! 🙂

It’s uploaded to the server, but I can’t do the final install since I get a 404 error saying none of my files exist on the server. Which is why I remarked that it’s weird that I can get in to edit them but I can’t actually open them online. Can’t bring up the login page or the index online. That was what made me suspect a Chmod prob but there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong there.
Are you sure you have wordpress in root as if they are there you should not have this problem who is your host.
Yes, it is in the root directory. And as far as the exact host, strange to say I do not know; the person who is sharing the server is a 22 year old college student whose father is paying the yearly fee. It’s probably something like Bluehost, but even she says she doesn’t know. I wish that she would ask! I’d ask him myself, only I’m in Indiana and they are in Tennessee, too far away, lol.
Well, here is the 404 error msg I keep seeing, if this would give any clues:
Not Found
The requested URL /wordpress/wp-login.php was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/2.2.17 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.17 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at xxxxxx.com Port 80
Something else–when I hover over the link that should open a file, it says, “This link may not work if you don’t have your own domain name.” That can’t be the cause of my problem, since in the past I was always able to get in.
The requested URL /wordpress/wp-login.php was not found on this server.
If you trying get to wordpress using above then you should have your wordpress files and folders in wordpress folder which should be in root folder possibly public_html
Hmmm, well, I say it’s worth a try! Now I have to figure out how to create a public_html folder; hoping it’s as simple as creating any other directory. ;\
it should be there as when a server account is created it should have your root folder is there any way you can meet me on skype so I can see what you have with desktop share.
my id is govindjip
I did create a public_html folder and moved all of my WP files into it, but that hasn’t helped either, still that same persistent error message…
I don’t have Skype and I’m not sure how well it would work on dialup… Is there any other way to view someone else’s directory? Seems my friend told me about something, can’t remember what it was.
