Hi. We have a new WP installation on our development server.

We’re planning on using SEO Framework on our new version of our webaite. The outgoing site uses another SEO plugin.

The Dev site is currently hidden from crawlers using the robots.txt file.

Is it advisable to install SEO Framework and configure it prior to moving the site (while still hidden w/ robots.txt) to our production server replacing our outgoing site or wait until after we do the move?

    Thank you for your input.

    Hello!

I see no lasting issue in using the plugin on a staging server and moving it to a production server afterward.

With a pessimistic look at this, do mind that the global SEO settings are stored with serialization. This means that the database entry must be transferred integrally, or otherwise, the global SEO settings might get corrupted–you can resolve that in a click by hitting the reset button on the settings page, however.

If you transfer the settings as-is, the caveat you want to look out for is that the URLs of the two social images (global fallback & homepage image) you’ve set may not be carried over correctly (the URLs won’t match). Nevertheless, you can amend this quickly after you move the site by reconfiguring these two options.

Everything else should be fine 🙂

Ultimately, it’s up to you. You can always activate the plugin later, which should work flawlessly.

Good luck with your new and improved website!
