The installation failed due to “Could not copy file: xxxxx…./wp-admin/includes/update-core.php”

now I’m not able to access the wp-admin because it’s throwing me 500 internal server error.

I looked for the “.maintenance” file and cannot find it anywhere in the root directory other than .htaccess.

Try:
– switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder using FTP (or use whatever file management application your host provides)

– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

– re-upload all files & folders from a fresh download of WordPress 3.0 and re-run the upgrade manually
