Installation folder – different folder

Quick question before my first ever WordPress install.

I currently have a non-Wordpress website running from the root of my domain, say http://www.website.com. Now I want to try out WordPress without affecting the current website. I want to install it into the folder http://www.website.com/wordpress, but whenever my new WordPress website is ready I want the root to become the WordPress homepage.

Will it be possible to move WordPress from the folder into the root, and is this easy to do for a beginner like me?
