    I used the plugin ‘Duplicator’ to duplicate my wordpress folder as two external files (the archive and php installer) and uploaded those into the projectionpictures folder with this path projection (name of the server)/web/projectionpictures.

    I then opended the php file to complete the installation.
    However when I sign into http://192.168.1.234/projectionpictures/wp-login.php and try to install or update further plugins I’m asked to enter connection information for the ftp address of my Synology unit. I’m not sure what the ftp address is but Synology inform me that port 21 is open. I don’t know what the ftp username or password is either, unless I do and don’t realise it.

    What do I have to do now so further plugins can be installed and updated in the newly created projectionpictures as I intend to make it a live site once the plugin problem is solved.

    They’ve clearly made it difficult to change. If it is the default for web station, perhaps it is OK. Maybe the ability to let anyone write files is somehow prevented through other means? IDK. All I know is it’s very unusual on normal web servers like Linux/Apache. I don’t know Synology at all. You’re probably OK as is. It’s odd from where I stand though.

    I’ve gone back to Synology to ask them if there are any other applications in the DSM gallery I can install apart from Anti-Virus Essential to prevent dead.letter and photo.scr appearing again. As it appears altering the web/ permissions settings is not a good idea.

    The other thing I’ve spotted is that although the DSM external configuration for mail ports only has 587 and 993 open. Only 587 is open in the router, 993 is closed. If I open 993 in the router emails stop getting out. The WP SMTP is set on 587. Odd !

    Are there any good plugins apart from Yosat SEO for making my site ‘more well known’ in google search results?

    My theory on 993 is since it is open the mail server tries to use it, but email fails for another reason besides a blocked port. When blocked, it uses another port/protocol which is successful. Completely unsubstantiated theory, but plausible I think.

    I don’t think there is much purpose to using more than one SEO plugin. If you provide useful information that is unique and authoritative, people will find you and spread the word. That improves search ranking more than anything IMO. It does take time to develop.

    Is there any more code you could add to the code you did for me that would also ‘shrink’ the length of the recaptcha bar I have on the same Contact Us page. Here is the original you so kindly did for my before. At the moment on an iphone the recaptcha disjoints the rest of the page as its the widest there.

    @media screen and (max-width: 425px) {
    input[type="text"], input[type="email"], input[type="url"], input[type="password"], input[type="search"], input[type="number"], input[type="tel"], input[type="range"], input[type="date"], input[type="month"], input[type="week"], input[type="time"], input[type="datetime"], input[type="datetime-local"], input[type="color"], textarea {
        max-width: 100%;
    }
    }

    Try replacing my previous CSS with this:

    @media screen and (max-width: 425px) {
    input[type="text"], input[type="email"], input[type="url"], input[type="password"], input[type="search"], input[type="number"], input[type="tel"], input[type="range"], input[type="date"], input[type="month"], input[type="week"], input[type="time"], input[type="datetime"], input[type="datetime-local"], input[type="color"], textarea {
        max-width: 100%;
    }
    .wpcf7-form-control-wrap {
        transform: scale(0.82);
        transform-origin: 0 0;
    }
    }

    The reCaptcha comes in as an iframe, which are difficult to manage with CSS. Scaling its container is a clever way to get around the usual constraints. It wasn’t my idea, I saw it suggested somewhere. The emulator I use for CSS design is not 100% accurate, so I can’t be sure if this will actually work.

    Your code has worked, so great work. Enjoy what’s left of the weekend.

    I think my only other concern now is whether the theme I’m using is the most appropriate relative to what I want the website to be about, or whether there are other themes which would be far better as I didn’t experiment a great deal before I used Lodestar. Is there a plugin that rotates between different themes, probably not.

    I haven’t played a lot with Lodestar colours at the top or bottom and I haven’t tried to change the font or the colours for the menu options either. When I first started using Lodestar it seemed a bit rigid in those areas.

    There are literally tens of thousands of free themes in the WP dot org repository. Many more are available for purchase from outside vendors. Installing and previewing a repository theme on your own site takes just a few clicks. The vendor sites typically have a demo site for each theme. Be aware that these demo sites can be misleading. The theme provides the tools to build a site like the demo, but it may take some work to get exactly that look. When you test drive on your own site, there’s no doubt about what you’re getting.

    I suppose some people install a theme and use it as-is, changes are limited to what can be done in the customizer (which can be a lot). I personally cannot avoid making small adjustments beyond the customizer to get things exactly the way I want. Mostly CSS changes. You can do a lot with only CSS changes. IMO it’s worth learning at least CSS. Your browser’s CSS inspector is an invaluable tool. No formal training is required. You learn as you go. In researching how to make a particular adjustment, you automatically pick up and retain information.

    Clearly, you still want a theme that is as close as possible to being something you like, but if a few things about a theme are off for you, they can likely be corrected.

    Thank you very much for all your assistance. I think my website is now at a point where I need to see if it can act as a background conversation to get me some work. It’s been a pleasure to correspond with you so my site could go live.

    If you have any further thoughts or views on my site that might be of assistance please let me know.

    I was using Malcare plugin just prior to my last website being invaded by a virus are there any other antivirus/firewall plugins that can guard my website any better than that one. As it never knew the viruses were even there.

    One small thing has happened on this page.

    https://www.projectionpictures.com/contact-me/

    The contact phone number appears in grey on my iphone

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/dmj2h5yu1gejcs2/2019-04-02%2014.01.25.png?dl=0

    and ipad https://www.dropbox.com/s/b5v49e8lkczm7wf/2019-04-02%2014.01.40.png?dl=0

    but not on my laptop.

    Here is the code for that section:

    <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;">Please call or sms +44 07958 771120 or fill in the entries below to type an enquiry.</span>

    To make sure that number stays in black or bold black can code be entered on the page itself or in additional CSS again?

    Moderator bcworkz

    (@bcworkz)

    iThings automatically convert phone numbers to tap targets. There’s some very clever CSS that is supposed to address this, but I suggest simply converting the numbers into normal links to make them tap targets on all phones. They will then take on the appearance of other links on your site. That too can be overridden with CSS if you want. Typical phone link:
    <a href="tel:+44 07958 771120" class="phone-cf7">+44 07958 771120</a>

    More info:
    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/3736807/how-do-i-remove-the-blue-styling-of-telephone-numbers-on-iphone-ios

    The OP said their link was blue, but I’m sure it’s the same “feature”.

    If you want to change the link style of the above link HTML, add this below the other CSS in the customizer:

    a.phone-cf7 {
      color: #600;
      text-decoration: none; /* removes default underline */
    }
    Thread Starter pr0ject10n

    (@pr0ject10n)

    So I entered this first:

    a.phone-cf7 {
      color: #600;
      text-decoration: none; /* removes default underline */
    }

    in additional CSS in under the customizer.

    In then replaced this in Contact Me:
    <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;">Please call or sms <strong><span style="color: #0000ff;">+44 07958 771120</span></strong> or fill in the entries below to type an enquiry.</span>

    with this <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;">Please call or sms <strong><a href="tel:+44 07958 771120" class="phone-cf7">+44 07958 771120</a></strong> or fill in the entries below to type an enquiry.</span>

    The number appears to be in brown (I was after blue) better than grey, and still is a tap targets on all phones, which is OK.

    Have I done something wrong in the way I’ve entered the code?

    Are there any plugins that I can use that will prevent visitor who wants to look at the pdf or jpg that I’ve uploaded and linked to a word in a paragraph, from being able to download the file itself?

    Thread Starter pr0ject10n

    (@pr0ject10n)

    My router lost its connection for about an hour today (its back on line) and now I can’t access my live wordpress site in the dash or see the site live. I can though log into the wordpress default IP that I began with. Don’t understand why I can’t see the projectionpictures dashboard even with the NORD VPN set to Romania.

    I have generated a fresh synology DDNS IP number, as the DSM insisted on doing this when I used. ez-internet to reconfigure the router although it doesn’t as its not on the compatible list.

    I reentered the new DDNS IP into the 1and1 console for A @ and www @.

    Now I have to wait for everything to work again, in the 1and1 DNS I propped the TTL from its default 1hr to 5mins. Should I have done that?

    Something odd has happened I have received notice from jetpack that my site is back up but that date in the email was an hour old. I can now see my site on my tablet and my iphone but not in opera, as I type this. odd !

    Your site is up for me. Either you’ve already resolved the access issue or if not, then maybe there’s an issue with firewall settings?

    When someone views a PDF or image you’ve linked to, they in fact have already downloaded it, whether they realize it or not is a different matter. If they don’t explicitly save it, the file remains in the browser cache and will eventually be flushed. There are “tricks” that make it appear there is no way to save the file, but anyone that is tech savvy knows better and can save the file from the cache location.

    I suggest you shouldn’t put online anything you don’t want people to download. Use lo-rez or watermarked images and partial PDFs to protect your intellectual property to some degree while still being able to share it.

    You can change that link color for the phone number on the contact form to anything you like if you can determine the your preferred hex-color or RGB color code. The #600; was close to other link colors on other pages is the only reason it was chosen. For dark blue try #006. The equivalent RGB color would be rgb(0, 0, 102);

    Thank you for the replies on both matters. With regards the DDNS number I’m not entirely sure if the website and WP dash would have reappeared without me changing that number or not. It certainly didn’t seem to want to re-appear, unless I need to leave everything alone for an hour and wait for jetpack email to notify me its live again, how long does it take for jetpack to email you again if your site is still off-line. Without their email I wouldn’t have known it was back on. In fact after I discovered it was discoverable on my phone and tablet (due to jetpack), it then appeared in opera, shortly thereafter. But the time difference between my router being fixed back on-line and the site coming back on-line was about 2 hours.
