• Hi, I am pretty sure this is a noob question, so apologies, but I am completely lost as to what to do – I have chosen a theme I think works for my site, downloaded it, but it will not open. I have tried to download wordpress but it says the same thing. Am I missing a vital plug in? Is there a tutorial for mac users anywhere or any help that can be offered? Any advice, guidance anything is much appreciated, thank-you

  • If you are trying to install WordPress only on your local computer, see:

    http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Installing_WordPress_Locally_on_Your_Mac_With_MAMP

It won’t be accessible on the internet or on a site that you have on a live server.

In addition to what WPyogi says, perhaps this may help clarify the matter.

WordPress is not an application/app/exe that you download and “run”; it is a web site framework that needs to be installed on a web server which must also have a database server.

The link WPyogi provides is to allow you to set up this environment on you Mac so that you can install WP, and then your theme that you downloaded, and try it out.

To have a WP site accessible from the web, you will need to purchase a domain name and a hosting account from one of the many web hosts. You can then either install WP there and rebuild it from your local version, or, as most do, copy the local version to the hosted location.
