We are currently testing on a staging site and cannot find any documentation related to installments. We understand how to select installments and set their frequency, but there is no information about the date range or cutoff period—specifically, the dates after which installments will no longer be available, if applicable.

Additionally, we would like to know how a client is committed to the installment plan. For instance, AfterPay is linked to credit reports and ensures that we, as the store, still receive payment when used with Stripe. If StellarPay has its own installment protocol, what assurances do we have as the e-commerce provider that we will receive payment? Does it function in a manner similar to AfterPay with Stripe? Please advise.

  • Hi @poancia, I’m glad to hear you’re evaluating StellarPay! Our documentation still lacks specifics in certain areas, mainly because we are a newer plugin and juggling fast-moving priorities, but I’ll make a note to improve specifics on installment subscriptions.

To answer your question, here’s how it currently works – when a customer purchases an installment, let’s say $5.00 for 5 weeks, the initial payment is charged as a one-time payment in Stripe, and the remaining 4 payments are set up through a scheduled subscription. If you view this scheduled subscription in Stripe you will see the end date of the subscription, which I believe is what you’re asking to be surfaced better within Woo and StellarPay screens. I agree; we can certainly make that clearer, and I’ve noted this as an important piece of feedback for us to address quickly.

Currently, customers can end installment plan subscriptions by cancelling through the WooCommerce My Account center by default. This can be customized with a snippet (we can provide one if interested) or prevented if you’re not using that shortcode. Your use case is valid and I am creating an enhancement task for our team to address this either by changing the default behavior or adding an additional option on the product screen that asks “Allow customers to cancel?” which will toggle the My Account center capabilities.

Here’s the feedback post I’ve created and set as a high priority: https://stellarpay.featureos.app/p/remove-customer-s-ability-to-cancel-installment-subscriptions

I hope that clears up any confusion. Please let me know if you have any questions!
