Int. Server Error when viewing MultiSite Subdirectory Blog

    I am setting up a WordPress 3 MultiSite network on my test site to see if I can figure out this works before I change over my other blogs.

    The test site http://www.experiencewestbank.com with two subdirectory blogs
    1) /homegarden and 2) /testing

    The install went OK and I can view the SuperAdmin Screen. I can also add new sites (i’ve added the two), and new users. There is no content or postings as of yet. I am just trying to test the structure.

    I can view the main site OK, but when I click on either the homegarden or testing site, (or their backend) I get an INTERNAL SERVER ERROR (at bottom).

    My fingers are crossed that I am missing something simple here…

    You need to check to see what’s in your webserver’s error logs. The error that you received even suggests doing so:

    I seem to recall most of the time people getting that error from either mod_rewrite not being active for this site/account or the install has been installed as an addon domain instead of being the main domain. The specific error would be helpful.

    Thanky-you, but I already checked the error log in cpanel.

    It shows no errors. I also recreated the error to see if the log would pick it up, but it’s still empty….

    SOMETHING I didn’t notice before, not only do I get the message when I try to go to the subdomains, but I also get the message when I click on any of the links on the main blog page. Only the home page and the wp-admin work, the ABOUT, posting page etc. give me the message….

    Actually, if you view any of the permalinks off the main site, you get the same error. it’s not multisite specific, rather just general.

    Your htaccess file isn’t being read at all. tell your webhost support & they can fix it.

    I GOT IT (I think)

    I had a some old stuff from a previous WP blog in the htaccess file (which I was changing just as I bet you were looking at it).

    Instead of overwriting it, I posted the new Multisite info under it. (Now it is overwritten).
