I’ve discovered that certain searches result in an Internal Server Error. I am able to create the problem with searches containing “the”. Please let me know if this is a known issue and how to correct the problem. Thank You.

Here is a copy of the full error:

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Since “the” is just about the most common word there is, this sounds like a server performance issue.

    Couple of questions:

    – How large is your database? How many posts?
    – Are you using the “limit searches” feature? If not, try enabling that.
    – Is “the” on the list of stopwords? If not, try adding it.

    Hello,

    Thank you for the response.

    The WordPress database is 27.32MB.

We have 233 posts in this database.

Also, here is the state of the index in Relevanssi:
    Documents in the index: 287
    Terms in the index: 74202
    Highest post ID indexed: 1643

“Limit searches” is enabled and set at the default of 500. I tried lowering the limit all the way down to 20 but the problem persists.

“the” is already in the list of stopwords.

Please let me know if you need any other information.

    Thank you,

    -Brian

Ok, 233 posts is not much, so it’s not a performance problem. Can you access the error log? It would be helpful to see what the actual error is.

Thank you, Mikko. How do I bring up the error log please?

That would depend a lot on your hosting, so please ask your hosting support.

Okay, thank you. Unfortunately I use shared hosting and they do not provide access to error logs.

I’ll go ahead and close this thread.

    Sincerely,

    Brian Cox
