Trying to set up rewrite roules for my blog ended in disaster! After saving the roules I was not able to access the site at all. I had to delete the .htaccess to be able to access the admin area. After deleting the .htaccess file, everything seemed to be okay, until I tried to access one of the posts by clicking on it. Every post seems to still be using the the rewrite roules that dont work. How can i remove thees roules completely?

  • If you go to Options > Permalinks, click the top (default) option it should return to normal.

Doning this does not help. when doing this, the same thing happends over again, and i have to delete the .htaccess file.

Delete the contents of /wp-content/cache and see if that helps?

I dont have this directory, so i doubt it would help!

You can also make the .htaccess unwritable (after deleting the rewrite rules from it) when you change back to standard permalinks. I had the same problem and this allowed me to get back to the default permalink structure.

I think I will need to update my apache server to make this work – will let you know when I do it.

Still no luck guys! Any other ideas? Is anything of this stored in the database?
