• Hello, I recently downloaded this plugin because my company was looking for a better search function for one of our blogs. Everything was working great when tested on multiple browsers and was exactly wha we were looking for! Unfortunately, some people that visit the blog still use Internet Explorer. When I read up on this plugin and Internet Explorer compatibility, I saw that the Ajax search bar would revert back to the basic WordPress search bar if viewed on IE, which would be fine. But that is not happening for us. When we test out the search bar in IE, a blank white field pops up, with no buttons. We were able to type in the field, but when we pressed enter, nothing would happen and no result appeared.

Is there a way to get the basic WordPress search bar to appear when viewed in IE (yet keep the Ajax Search while in other modern browsers)? Is there something I should do, or is this feature included in the paid Pro version of the plugin?

(As of now, I have removed the Ajax search bar over the weekend because of the amount of clients who are still using IE. I can re-add it when I return to work on Monday if support would like to take a look at what is happening.)

Here are two screenshots of what the search bar is appearing as in IE.

    Thank you!

    Hi!

The plugin should fall back to the default browser whenever viewed on an old IE device (IE<9). I believe this might be a bug, I’ve checked the source and it is very likely.

Will do some more tests on this one, and make sure to include a fix in the upcoming release.

Great, thank you! I will keep a lookout for the upcoming release and try out the plugin again afterwards.

    Hello,

I have updated the plugin to the newest version, but I am having the same problem with IE. The clients that are using IE are using IE 11, and there is no Ajax box or default WordPress search box appearing, although you can still type something in if you were to click in the empty area. However, you cannot search anything. It looks the same as the screenshots I posted above.

I have disabled it for now, but if there is a solution, I would reinstall.

    Thanks,

    Erica

    Hi Erica,

Could you please try turning off this option: https://i.imgur.com/IIoR9y9.png
Then also make sure to clear all layers of cache you might have.

Also, as a test, could you please check the demo site of the plugin here: http://wp-dreams.com/demo/ajax-search-lite/
I’m seeing the ajax search bar with IE 11, so I’m not sure what could be wrong there.

Thank you, I followed your instructions and changed the setting. I then cleared my cache but I am still having the same problem, with no search box appearing.

However, when I try out the live demo in IE 11, it works perfectly. Could it be a theme issue?

In this case yes, this might be a theme related issue, or at least it is very likely. I’m not sure what else could cause the box not to appear as it should.

I know this thread is old now, but I thought I would follow up. We are in the process of redesigning the site. I’m testing out a new theme right now and tried out the plugin, it works exactly as it should! So it did end up being the theme that was a problem. It was very old so that’s probably why it was creating conflicts with the plugin. I am going to use the plugin with the new theme. Thanks so much for all your help.
