We’re developing a website for a client and have 1 remaining problem.
When they request a new password with the forgot link, the link in the e-mail returns a message that the link was invalid
“Your password reset link appears to be invalid. Please request a new link below.”
I’ve tried to disable/uninstall all the plugins related to users or logging in.
I’ve tried switching to the Twenty Twenty five theme
I’ve tried clearing the cache multiple times trough cmd and with W3 cache plugin.
But none seem to have any effect.

I know I can manually reset the password in the database, but the intention is that they can do this themselves.

How else could I solve this or what can be the reason of this invalid reset link?

Really deactivate all plugins, not just the ones you think work with user data. Caching plugins can also interfere with this.

I’m trying to add an administrator and am having the same problem. I deactivated all the plugins, and this did not work to allow an email to be sent to the new administrator.

I’ve deactivated all the plugins on the website, as well as the theme.

Now none of the links in the e-mails seem to work, but maybe that’s because without th WP Mail SMTP plugin and sendgrid connection they end up in our mailbox quarantine ?

Links in e-mails are different from not receiving the e-mail itself. What exactly is the problem? Are the emails no longer arriving at all?

The e-mails are still ariving but in the spam / quarantine of my mailbox.
But the links are still invalid.

Are they perhaps being rendered harmless by the anti-spam detection in your mailbox for security reasons? I would recommend using WP Mail SMTP with authentication again, which should prevent this spam detection.

When you click on the links, what message do you get?

Normally we would use WP mail SMPT, but for the link issue I deactivated all the plugins to test.
So that made the e-mails to go to the spam/quarantine.
And that made links of other kind of e-mails from the website also fail (like the confirmation mail to change the e-mail adres of the admin)

I’ve just tried to only activate the wp mail smtp plugin. The other mail links do work now (like the previous example , changing the admin e-mail confirmation)
But the link of the password reset mail still doesn’t work sadly.

The message of the password reset link remains the same:
Error: Your password reset link appears to be invalid. Please request a new link below.”
