Hi, can you enable Debug mode.
Then carry out another test and add another user. Try both methods, from the back end and the front end. Make sure that when you add a user from the front end you are not logged in.
Once the above is done, can you check the log file. Report back with any findings.
Thank you
Hi, thanks. I checked the debug box in settings. Then opened an incognito window and tried inputting a username and got the same response. I also then tried this again in the back end. Nothing shows in the debug log in the browser window.
Hi, please read the following documentation. This shows you how to add a member manually to your site using this plugin.
Let me know how you go.
Thank you
Hi, yes I had tried that. Same problem.
*invalid username (red box).
ok elsewhere (with green box and check mark in email).
I took a screen shot but It looks like this doesn’t allow attachments.
ps, also disabled all plug-ins and changed to twenty seventeen theme but the same thing.
Also make sure that the member you are adding manually does not already exist in WP Users.
If the above is not the case, can you disable and delete the plugin. Then install a fresh new copy. Then carry out another test.
Thank you
It was my first member, apart from myself, so not the problem. I’ll do as you suggest…tomorrow as it’s late here and my arm is going to fall off.
Good night from the cold northern lands and thanks for your help so far!
Okay no problem. It is my pleasure to help you.
I look forward to your reply tomorrow. Oh and make sure you keep yourself warm.
Kind regards
username in english characters?
thanks lafrente and mbrsolution. I uninstalled simple memberpress plugin and deleted tables from db. Then resinstalled. Also deactivated all other plugins. No luck either backend or registration form.
Hi, your issue is very strange.
Okay lets find out more information about your current set up.
- First of all are you running your site locally in a laptop or computer using xampp, mamp or wamp?
- Are you using Windows or a Mac system?
- If your testing your site on a live server, what type of server is your site running in? Is it a Windows server or a Linux server?
- Is your server running Apache or NGINX or other?
- Can you test a different browser when adding a new member. But this time make sure only this plugin is active and nothing else.
- Is Sandbox testing feature enabled? If it is make sure you disabled it.
I look forward to your replies.
Kind regards

Good morning,
I have it live but I have it on maintenance mode when I’m not testing it. And deactivate maintenance mode when testing (so I can sign out).
Windows
Apache
I’m working in chrome, but tested it on Firefox and IE with all plugins deactivated and it’s the same thing.
Sandbox testing not enabled ( I believe you are referring to payment option).
It is the same problem adding a user through the back end membership. Shows invalid username, but it’s ok with new email address. When I enter email address attached to the member it pops up that that email address is already taken. So that works.
I added another name via wp users and then used the Simple Membership WP User Import to link the two. So I have two members now.
But it doesn’t matter what name I put in to the user name it rejects it saying invalid. While when I put in both username it obviously is going into db, seeing it and shows they are taken. So it’s like there is something in the db that it doesn’t like.
I did delete all the tables in the db associated with the membership plug in.
??
sorry this should read
While when I put in both email addresses (not username) it obviously is going into db, seeing it and shows they are taken.
Hi, I am out of ideas.
I have repeatedly tested this on two different testing sites and it works flawlessly for me. I cannot reproduce your issue. Please click on the following link. I guess this is the last possible solution to your issue.
Kind regards
