Invisible input field

The email address input field is invisible, making it confusing for my subscribers to use. I have tried this on both Safari & Chrome browsers and the field is not visible, like it is shown in the manual. Is there a way to customize the page to have the text “Enter your email address here” or something like that to make the input location obvious?
