• Hello, I have never found it necessary to add a cron plugin in any site I have developed with wordpress. However, lately I am fixing a site of a new client who has wp-Crontrol installed. I am trying to reduce the number of plugins as the site is consuming quite a lot of ram. So wondering if it’s necessary. Thanks!

    I have never used one.

But, again, every site is different.

It’s generally not necessary unless the server is used in a way where having such a plugin is an advantage. Sometimes plugins get installed in an attempt to solve a problem. The problem gets resolved even though the plugin didn’t help, yet the plugin remains in place. In some other cases it’s really necessary.

Try deactivating it and see if any wp-cron issues turn up on the site health screen (or related problems elsewhere on the site). It might take a couple days before signs of trouble start showing up. The time is highly variable depending on what sort of cron jobs are used.
