Is it Normal – Setup Widgets after Deactivation

    Hope to get some feedback on standard practice

    I’ve been working on fixing someone’s site that has a bunch of backend problems – the original webmaster is arguing that by deactivating plugins and themes to identify where the conflicts are coming from is making more work for them because they have to go back and setup the widgets every time.

    on my sites this isn’t an issue, but apparently on this site it is a problem.

    Is it normal to have to go back and re-set widgets if the plugin has been deactivated/reactivated?

    I have some plugins that do that, so yes, it can be normal to have to go back and re-set widgets after plugins have been deactivated/reactivated…and I have learned to first make backups and notes of widget contents and settings for later dealing with that.

    PS: Moving widgets to the “Inactive Widgets” area beforehand can sometimes be helpful there, but the widgets are not always still there after an update or upgrade!
