I wonder the same. It’s a shame if it has been abandoned, because this plugin is very effective against spam.
I use a lot this plugin too, but it more of 1 year that no one answer in the forum and other plugins will not want to be compatible with a plugin not mantained from so long time, if not died this plugin, is at risk to have security issues too.

First and foremost, I want to sincerely apologize for the lack of updates and communication regarding Zero Spam for WordPress over the past year. I understand the concern this has caused.
The good news is that we are back!
We have just released version 5.5.8, which brings the plugin up to speed with:
- Full compatibility with the latest WordPress and PHP versions.
- Resolutions for several reported bugs
- Important security updates and performance optimizations.
To be transparent about the hiatus: I, the main contributor, faced a serious health issue that required me to step away for an extended period. During that same time, Highfivery Studio underwent a reorganization. It was a perfect storm that unfortunately left the plugin without the attention it deserved.
However, I am happy to report that my health has improved, the reorganization is complete, and I am back in action.
We are committed to maintaining this plugin and are already working on the next major version, which will include exciting new AI-powered detection features to make spam blocking even more effective.

Zero Spam has been the best plugin I have found to block spam on several of our WordPress installations. Can’t wait to see what the next version will bring!
