ISBN Error

    I just updated your lovely plugin to the latest and greatest. Now it doesn’t show the right book! First, I thought it was just a variation in book cover, so I plugged in the next book in my stack to read – and it brought up a completely different book!

    I am putting in the ISBN# 9780439064873 (Harry Potter Book #2). When I hit “save options”, it changes the ISBN to 9781416549345. I tried entering without the 978 in front, and it changed it to another completely different ISBN, 9780785824121.

    Not sure exactly what is going on, but I’ve had to remove the widget. Until this matter is resolved, I don’t want to display books that I’m not even reading!

    Forgot to mention – I just updated WordPress as well, so the version listed in the original post (as part of the subject settings) is wrong.

    For the time being use the ISBN 9781781100288, this one works for me and shows “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”.

    Checking it out.

    When I do that and hit “Update options”, it changes the ISBN to 9780152051259. I think it’s an error in “update options”, not the ISBN itself. I am using the latest Chrome browser, if that is any help.

    From my “analysis”, the book is correctly identified, and found, just the ISBN in Google’s database and the one that is saved is different. If you check the data, it is collected from this page:

    https://www.googleapis.com/books/v1/volumes?q=9780439064873

    For me, the ISBN does not change to the one you have written (9780152051259). You always have to enter all the 13 numbers in the exact same order.

    Which version of the plugin are you using?

    I am using the latest WordPress version and your latest version of the plug in. They were both updated at the same time. Do you think I just need to delete and reinstall your plugin? Because I have tried many times, making sure I put the number in correctly, and every time it changes, and every time it shows a different book in the widget. I did not have this problem before the updates.

    I just tried deleting and re-adding your plug-in. It still continues to change the ISBN to something else after I have saved the new options. I am not sure what else to do. :-/

    I have tried:

    Good Omens 9780060853969 (which displayed correctly before the updates) but it now changes to a different ISBN, but displays the proper cover and title.

    Harry Potter #1 9781781100288 (cut and pasted from the one you supplied above) but it changes to 9780152051259 and is a book titled Heir Apparent (in the widget display).

    The Long Earth 9780152051259 (which does not change the ISBN) and it displays correctly.

    I finally looked up multiple ISBNs for the troublesome HP book and found this one that took (as in the plugin didn’t change it after I hit save) 9781594130014. Why is the plugin sometimes changing the ISBN after saving? I should be able to just type the 13 digit number in and not worry about going back to actually look at my page and make sure it has pulled up the right book, changed ISBN or not, right? Wouldn’t it just give me an error if I plug the number in wrong?

    Developing wordpress plugins is not my full-time job, and exams also keep me busy 😉

    Oh no, that’s fine! I completely understand. But I have the correct book for now, so it’s all good. 🙂
