Issue with Pinterest for WooCommerce Conversion API Tracking

    Dear Pinterest for WooCommerce Support Team,

    We are currently experiencing issues with Conversion API (CAPI) tracking in our Pinterest integration for WooCommerce.

    Our marketing agency has reviewed the setup and informed us that several required parameters are not being correctly sent server-side through the plugin. According to Pinterest diagnostics, the following parameters are missing:

    • user_agent
    • ip_address
    • click_id
    • external_id

    The plugin appears to be updated to the latest version, so we would like to understand whether this could be:

    • A known issue with the current plugin version
    • A limitation of the free version regarding CAPI implementation
    • A configuration issue on our side that we may have missed

    Could you please help us investigate why these mandatory parameters are not being properly transmitted to Pinterest?

    At the moment, conversion metrics and attribution are not working correctly, which is affecting campaign optimization and reporting.

    We would appreciate your guidance on how to solve this issue or whether a more advanced integration is recommended.

    Thanks for the detailed report, and for having your agency review the diagnostics beforehand, that’s really helpful context!

    The Conversions API feature was added in version 1.4.19 and should handle server-side tracking for reliable conversion data. If these specific parameters aren’t being sent correctly, this could indicate either a configuration issue or a technical problem that needs investigation.

    Before we dig in, a few quick questions to understand your setup:

    1. Do you have a consent management plugin active? If customers are denying marketing cookies, some parameters like the Pinterest click ID (epik) won’t be captured, which can cause them to appear as missing in diagnostics.
    2. Could you also share your System Status Report? Go to WooCommerce → Status → Get system report, paste it at https://pastebin.com and share the link here.

    One thing worth noting: the click_id (epik) parameter is the Pinterest click ID cookie, it’s only present when a customer arrives via a Pinterest ad click. If your diagnostics are showing this as missing across all events, that may simply mean those particular conversion events came from non-Pinterest traffic rather than a plugin configuration issue.

    Sí, tenemos un plugin de GDPR Cookie Consent, tras investigar un poco en Internet, parecía que podía ser eso y cambié las configuraciones tanto en el plugin de Pinterest y GDPR, pero sigue sin funcionar y no soy desarrolladora web…

    1- En el plugin “Pinterest for Woocommerce” descliqué “track conversions”.

    2- Plugin GDPR Cookie Consent:

    • En “recarga página” de ajustes – generales del plugin: ACTIVAR
    • En “Cookies de terceros” en “body” añadir código Pinterest detrás de Meta con código Pinterest: ID: 2612817000875.
    • En “Cookies de terceros” en “body” añadir código Pinterest detrás de Meta con código Pinterest: ID: 2612817000875 -Cambio de código de “no script” a “script”

    2- En cuanto al informe del sistema, te pedo aquí el código que aparece, ya que en “pastebin” creo que me tengo que registrar (me dices si debo hacerlo):

    Thanks for the detailed update. And no worries, you don’t need to register on Pastebin, the system report you shared here works perfectly!

    One important thing to fix first: in step 1, when you unchecked “Track conversions” in the Pinterest plugin, that actually disabled the Conversion API (CAPI) entirely, which is the opposite of what we want. Please go back to Pinterest → Settings → Conversions and re-enable that option as soon as possible, otherwise no conversion events are being sent to Pinterest at all right now.

    Once that’s back on, the next thing we’d like to investigate is your Action Scheduler queue, which is showing over 30K failed actions in your system report. Pinterest’s CAPI sends events through this queue, so if it’s overwhelmed, events simply aren’t reaching Pinterest regardless of how the plugin is configured. And this is most likely the root cause of the missing parameters.

    Could you do the following:

    1. Go to WooCommerce → Status → Scheduled Actions
    2. Filter by “Failed”
    3. Take a screenshot showing the Hook and Scheduled Date columns for the most recent failures
    4. Share it here using https://snipboard.io

    That one screenshot will tell us exactly what’s overwhelming the queue, and from there we can get things unblocked. Looking forward to your response.

    Ya había clicado la opción de “Track conversions” tras ver el error crítico, que antes no era así, era de color naranja (no sé si tendré que desinstalar y volver a instalar), sigue apareciendo como “crítico” aún habiendo seleccioando de nuevo “track conversions”.

    Por otra parte, en cuanto a las “acciones programadas”, en ese programa me hace tener que registrarme:

    Thanks for sharing the system report and the scheduled actions detail.

    One thing to clear up first: the 30,000+ failed actions in your Action Scheduler are all from Google for WooCommerce (gla/jobs/update_products/process_item), not from Pinterest. Pinterest’s Conversions API sends events directly; it doesn’t go through the Action Scheduler queue. So that’s a separate issue and not the cause here.

    Now, the Pinterest plugin has two tracking settings that work together:

    • “Track conversions” controls the Pinterest tag (client-side JavaScript).
    • There’s a separate toggle for the Conversions API (CAPI), which handles server-side tracking.

    When the plugin updated to version 1.4.19, CAPI was turned off for all merchants and needs to be re-enabled manually. If only “Track conversions” is checked but the CAPI toggle is off, the parameters your agency flagged (user_agent, ip_address, click_id, external_id) won’t be sent because no server-side events are going out at all.

    Can you please go to the Pinterest settings page and check whether you see a Conversions API toggle or a modal prompting you to enable it? If you do, turn it on. If you don’t see it, a screenshot of the full settings page would help me figure out what’s going on.

    Once CAPI is confirmed on, can you also enable debug logging in the Pinterest plugin settings, place a test order, then go to WooCommerce > Status > Logs and filter by “conversions”. That log will show us the exact data being sent to Pinterest, which will tell us if the parameters are actually missing or if the issue is on Pinterest’s diagnostics side.

    Con respecto al plugin “Google for Woocommerce”, veo que no está vinculado a nuestra tienda, adjunto pantallazo,¿tendría que conectarlo?.

    En cuanto al plugin “Pinterest for Woocommerce”, te confirmo que está activado el botón de “Conversiones API”, adjunto pantallazo de lo que son los ajustes.

    He realizado un pedido y escrito en el buscador el producto comprado y me aparece esto:

    He recibido una respuesta por vuestra parte mencionando a otra chica, pero en otro hilo de conversación, ¿es correcto?

    Nosotros no tenemos instalado “Pixel your site” y tras comprobar los registros del “estado” de Woocommerce sí están disparando bien.     Good to hear conversions are coming through again. The critical alert about 100% volume drop was from the period when track conversions was turned off, so that should recover now that it’s back on.

    The reply you saw in the other thread was meant for a different merchant who had PixelYourSite installed, so that part doesn’t apply to your store.

    The quality score gaps you’re seeing (External ID, IP Address, User Agent) are known limitations in the current plugin version. External ID isn’t sent yet, and there’s a bug where IP address and user agent get dropped from server-side events when a customer’s email is available. A fix for this is already in progress: https://github.com/woocommerce/pinterest-for-woocommerce/pull/1175

    One thing I noticed in your log screenshot: the entries you found are from Meta/Facebook, not Pinterest. Can you please go to WooCommerce > Status > Logs and filter the log source by “pinterest” instead? That will show whether Pinterest events are going through correctly.

    On Google for WooCommerce, the 30,000+ failed actions are all from that plugin trying to sync products while your WordPress.com account is disconnected. If you’re not using Google Ads, you can deactivate it. If your agency needs it, they’ll need to reconnect the WordPress.com account first.

    Let me know what you find in the Pinterest logs.

    En cuanto al plugin de “Google for Woocommerce” tras revisarlo bien la Agencia y ver que creaba conflicto, lo han desinstalado y han instalado este nuevo: “Product Feed” (ya he categorizado todo). Comentaban lo sisuiente:

    En Google Ads no porque vamos a campañas de Search. 

    En Google Merchand si. Pero este plugin o se paga o no da el servicio que antes daba gratuito. 

    Hemos quitado ese plugin porque estaba dando problemas. 

    Por eso no lo ves ahora en los producto.s

    Hemos metido otro que crea el FEED y lo manda a Google Mercahnd cada 24 horas.

    Thanks for sharing all of that, this is really helpful! The log files look great; those active daily entries confirm that Pinterest conversion events are being sent through correctly, so that’s a good sign.

    Regarding the quality score gaps (External ID, IP Address, User Agent), as Shameem mentioned, these are known limitations in the current version of the plugin. There’s already a fix in progress on GitHub (PR #1175), and once that’s merged and released, those parameters should start coming through properly in server-side events. Unfortunately there’s no manual workaround on your end for now, but you don’t need to change anything; your setup is correct.

    Regarding Google for WooCommerce, that all makes sense. If your agency has replaced it with a dedicated product feed plugin and the 30K+ failed actions were all from that plugin, removing it should clear up your Action Scheduler queue as well.

    I’ll mark this thread as resolved for now, but please don’t hesitate to follow up here once the plugin update is out and you’d like us to confirm the parameters are coming through.

    Muchas gracias por tu email.

    Sí, parece que las conversiones de Pinterest están entrando correctamente y respecto a Google for Woocommerce, gracias a que os disteis cuenta aquí en soporte, la Agencia lo borro, hasta entonces no se había hecho nada, buena observación con las acciones erróneas registradas.

    Esperamos que se pueda mejorar el plugin y así obtener información más precisa de cara a los resultados en ventas 🙂
