Issues with Add media

I’m following the directions with the theme and adding images to the gallery format and setting them with the upload to this post. However when I want to edit them I select the image and click “clear” the images are not removed from the gallery. Also the if I select the images to link to a Lightbox or the Attachment page nothing happens. Are they any other ways to delete an image from the theme gallery without having to delete it permanently?
