It does not mean that a plugin “is dead” if there have been no updates for a long time.
It may be that it is simply and quietly doing its job.
I have got a few websites, where this plugin is working fine.

I have been trying to reach the developer for months. Zero support and no updates does not mean that the project is alive. As long as the addon works, you can of course use it, but everyone must know for themselves whether that is trustworthy enough to build on it in the future.
