JavaScript error when creating new slidshows after WP upgrade

Hello all,

We use the Slide Show feature and it has stopped working and displaying the message “This slideshow requires JavaScript.” on the page with a blank slideshow.

OK Se we have Jetpack 3.1.1 and we create simple slide shows of images. To get to this feature we go to Post > Create Gallery > Select Images > Create a New Gallery > Change Link to to None > Change Type to Slide Show.

You get a blank box with the error message.

Jetpack 3.1.1
WordPress 4.0

The strange thing is, slide shows that were created before the upgrade still work.

The problem seems to be caused by your theme: there is currently a Javascript error on line 3 of this file:
http://engineering-sandbox.missouri.edu/wp-content/themes/engineering-responsive/js/scripts.js

I’d suggest getting in touch with the theme author about it. Once you fix the Javascript errors, Jetpack’s slideshows will start working.

Jeremy,
Thank you for the help. What I am seeing is a conflict between iosSlider and this version of Jetpack.

If you like I can provide the the code from the script. I am the Theme Manager so this is in my lap.

If I take the iosSlider code out of the script then the Jetpack slider works and the iosSlider does not and it is the same the other way round.

Any thoughts?

I’d suggest checking that jQuery and jQuery UI are properly loaded before your custom script, and making sure there are no other instances of jQuery or jQuery UI loaded later on the page. You’ll also want to make sure to use jQuery noConflict wrappers:

I’m not familiar with iosSlider(), but I’m not sure it’s included in jQuery or jQuery UI, so you might have to add an extra library to use it.
