jetpack cannot enable/disable features

    When I try to enable/disable any features in jetpack, I see the following error pop-up on the page:

    <feature> failed to activate. SyntaxError: JSON Parse error: Unrecognized token ‘<‘

    <feature> can be markdown, videopress, etc.

    When I check web server log, I see following line whenever I click enable/disable:

    [11/Oct/2016:17:20:17 -0400] “POST /wp-json/jetpack/v4/module/markdown/active HTTP/1.1” 404 345

    Issue resolved. I have to enable and setup url.rewrite rules for my web server as I am not using apache.
