    Hi all,

I have been made aware of an issue when users try to comment via Jetpack comment using Twitter, Facebook, WordPress or Google accounts they get the following problems:

Twitter: asks for login details and Authorize app, but the notes the Link you followed has expired

Facebook: asks for login details, accepts those but doesnt connect back to the comment page, just says “connecting to facebook”

    Google: same as Facebook Above

    Wordpress: same as above.

I am pretty sure this is gonna be a simple “have you clicked this?” fix, but I have been through all the settings i can see and cant see what the issue is.

    Anyone got any advice?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hey there!

Apologies for the delay in following up with you on this. We’re working through a bit of a backlog.

I’m seeing at least three plugins on your site that modify comment functionality, so I’d start with those. Can you try temporarily deactivating those and see if your readers have the same issues when trying to use social media to log in?

Let us know what you find!

Hi Jen, sorry for the delay in replying.

I have gone through and deactivated and tested after each deactivation, but still get the “expired link” error etc for all options.

Also, I have noticed that when we are logged into the website and comment, we get kicked out and need to log back in again before commenting again :/

    Hey @tomwallace,

I’m sorry to hear you’re still troubled with the social media account comments.

Just to be sure we’re on the same page, can you list the plugins you have deactivated when testing if the comments would work without them?

As Jen mentioned, there are a bunch of “suspect” I would deactivate so to test the comment section again. What I would at this point is to try temporarily deactivating all your plugins and checking if the problem gets fixes that way. If it works, then reactivate each plugin one-by-one to find out which one is causing problems.

When testing this, make sure you have also flushed your site and browser cache to make sure you’re testing with “fresh” information.

This would also help pinpoint the cause of the other issue you reported:

Also, I have noticed that when we are logged into the website and comment, we get kicked out and need to log back in again before commenting again :/

For this instance, my suspects all go to the Limit Login Attempts plugin, but let’s see what you find out. Thanks for sorting this out with us!

    evening all,

I have deactivated every plugin on the site (Except Jetpack as this provides the social comment posting feature that’s giving the issue) and still get the same problem- “the link you have followed is expired” when trying to login to comment via socials.

I have also deleted site and person cache, but issue persists

    Hi @tomwallace

I just tried the comment form social login using a Google account (You can delete the comment if you see it) and it worked OK.

Can you see if that is working now?

    Hi @bruceallen

Apologies, I was sure I replied straight away :/

Wordpress.com accounts seem to be working from Edge only. I have tried this via Chrome on a couple of different devices (desktop + mobile) and it just keeps saying connecting to WordPress.com once you enter user login details.

I am gonna pull Jetpack off the site and reinstall it, see if this refreshes things.

update: jetpack uninstalled and reinstalled, no change :/

took a quick video of the twitter login, because something kept flashing up when clicking to connect my account, and it just says “redirecting back to the application” and then it very quickly changes to “the link you have followed has expired”

I have tried a couple of accounts I have and each posts up the same result.

    Hi @tomwallace,

At this point, I’d like to run some more tests with you on your site to try to figure out what’s happening. Could you contact us via this contact form and mention this thread?

    Thanks!
