• Recently, we have started using the excellent TablePress plugin. It works really well and lets some of our non-technical users put really nice interactive tables into posts without resorting to HTML hand-coding.

You can see an example of such a table here:

    http://systematicmartinilifestyle.com/texas-wines-by-region/

Unfortunately, users who have subscribed to the blog and get e-Mail notifications will not see the table. What such an e-mail user will see looks like this:

“…to the west are excluded from the table.

    [table id=2 /]

As you can see the state…”

I already discussed this with the owner of the TablePress plugin. He was sympathetic, but suggested that there was nothing he could do to make the e-mail format properly…

    See:

    http://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/tables-do-not-show-for-e-mail-subscribers?replies=1#post-3915905

If someone sends me an e-mail address contact to [email protected], I will be happy to forward the sample subscriber e-mail generated from the post mentioned above.

I hope that the fix for this is easy…the TablePress plugin is really useful and it would be very disappointing to have to drop back to hand-coding tables in HTML…

    (?)

    Thanks!

  • Hi David,

    I just had another idea:
TablePress only registers its Shortcodes on the frontend, and depending on how Jetpack handles the generation of the email, this might have to do with it.
I therefore suggest that you try to find out how other (i.e. the WordPress Default Shortcodes) are handled, for example the [gallery] Shortcode.
Could you maybe try to insert a gallery into a post (via that Shortcode) and see if that is evaluated in the email?

    Tobias

    Tobias,

Good guess. Gallery doesn’t work either.

Here is a post with a gallery in it:

    http://systematicmartinilifestyle.com/small-gallery/

The distributed e-mail simply omits the gallery. The slight difference in behavior is that with gallery it shows nothing, whereas with TablePress it shows the [Table id=…] element.

I wonder who supports the generation of subscription e-mails? (I am not very familiar with the WordPress community)

    Thanks!

    Hi David,

    thanks for testing!

If the [gallery] Shortcode isn’t supported either, I guess this means that Shortcodes are not supported by the subscription email plugin. So, there’s indeed nothing that I can do about this in TablePress. 🙁

(It is however interesting that the [gallery] Shortcode does not show up at all…)

Jetpack is coming directly from WordPress.com. You might therefore try the support that is offered through http://jetpack.me/

    Regards,
    Tobias
