Hi there,
All stats tracking systems collect and report information differently. For example, Jetpack’s stats do not include visits from logged-in users by default.
We record page views and site visitors differently. A view is recorded when a visitor loads or reloads a page on your site. A visitor is recorded when we see a user or a browser on your site for the first time in a specific timeframe. A visitor is an individual looking at your site. A visitor can view many different pages of your site or view the same page multiple times. Therefore, the views number is typically higher than the visitors’ number.
The amount of unique weekly visitors can sometimes be less than the sum of daily visitors for the same week. The same goes for unique weekly visitors being less than your total monthly visitors. This occurs when the same visitor appears multiple times during the week or month.
You can learn more about how stats are recorded by taking a look at the information on the page linked below: https://wordpress.com/support/stats
If you want to get an idea of the source of traffic for the spike created in the Jetpack stats, then you can click the stats bar there and you will see the source in the “Referrers” section. I checked your site for the same and I can see some sources of traffic there. I don’t want to disclose the same here so not mentioning those sources.
I see the referrer of the traffic but the stats still don’t make sense. If accurate, that would mean someone is coming from that source 6/7 times per interaction. What would cause that behavior?
Something seems suspicious about it.
Hi @activelightning
Depending on the specific referrer itself, this may be a false alarm thing to worry about. As my colleague Animesh mentioned, it’s expected that different Stats Tracking solutions report different counts.
There wouldn’t be something specific that would cause that behavior, but there may be other visitors/users involved coming from that same referrer that you’ve mentioned.
